8. WOOL PRODUCT CARE

Wool Care Instructions

Wool is a natural and delicate fiber that requires special attention during both washing and drying. Proper care is essential to maintain the appearance and functionality of woolen products for many years.

Choosing the Washing Program: Select the “wool” or “delicate fabrics” program on your washing machine. These programs ensure less intensive drum movement, reducing the risk of fabric felting.

Temperature:

Keep the water temperature at a maximum of 30°C. Higher temperatures can damage wool fibers, causing shrinkage and hardening of the fabric.

Spinning:

Set the lowest spin speed (e.g., 400 RPM) or, ideally, avoid spinning altogether.

Pay Attention to Labels:

Always check the care label on your garment. Some wool items may require dry cleaning only.

Protecting the Garment: Place woolen garments in a special mesh laundry bag to prevent felting and mechanical damage.

Wash only 1-3 woolen items at a time. Washing too many items at once increases friction, leading to felting and shrinkage.

Detergents:

Use detergents specifically designed for wool: Detergents marked “wool” are gentle and free from enzymes, bleaches, and chemicals that can damage wool fibers. Avoid using too much detergent, as residue can remain in the fabric.

Try to minimize or avoid using fabric softeners. Excessive use of softeners can promote felting of wool.

Drying:

Avoid using a tumble dryer. Wool should not be dried in a dryer, as it may deform or shrink.

Shape the garment and dry it horizontally without hanging. After washing, gently press out water (do not wring or apply strong pressure). Lay the garment flat on a clean towel, reshape it to its original form, and dry it in a horizontal position.

Additional Tips:

Avoid frequent washing. Wool has natural properties that allow it to stay clean longer (it resists odors).

Ironing:

If ironing is necessary, select the wool setting on your iron and use a very low temperature (120–150°C). Use a gentle steam function or place a damp cloth between the iron and the fabric to protect it from direct contact.

By following these steps, your woolen garments will remain soft, elastic, and retain their original appearance for a long time.

Properly cared-for woolen products will stay attractive and comfortable for years!
